Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel

Athens, Greece

The Astir Palace in Athens was the Athenian hotel in the 60s and 70s. When the Four Seasons took over, the instigated a refurbishment to create a luxury property celebrating Greek heritage. Now visitors can indulge in two buildings, each with their own amenities and design as well as a neighbourhood of bungalows. Preciosa produced more than 40 different type of lighting fixtures working in collaboration with Meyer Davis, who led the design, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, and Lighting Design International.

Meyer Davis’ design vision centred on casual luxury and timeless sophistication. In the Mercato Restaurant hangs five bespoke chandeliers made from clear ribbed glass and bronze metal—materials that complement the restaurant’s warm colour palette of azure-blue and ochre. Bronze metal table lamps and wall sconces round out the lighting décor. In the adjacent Avra Lounge, guests will be forgiven for skipping the décor in favour of the floor to ceiling windows offering an expansive view to the sea. Here, the same materials are used as in the Mercato, but a different style of chandeliers and table lamps was created. These space were designed by the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio.

In the maritime-inspired Pelagos, wall sconces from opal glass, antique brass, and chrome add to the nautical vibe, as do the table lamps and bar lamps, which feature fabric shades. Opal and burnished brass metal pendants round out the look. In the lobby lounge, a series of large chandeliers feature oil-rubbed bronze bases and high quality seeded and frosted glass. The funnel-like shape gives the fixtures an ample feel while maintaining a slim profile.

The staircase lobby features a long, thin chandelier with a central metal stem. From the stem hang metal disc shades with the undersides made from faux alabaster. In the spa, the chandelier is a beautiful grouping of hand-blown glass pendants. They feature clear, seeded glass and partial frosting. The pendants are suspended on fabric cables in varying heights.

The guestrooms include a number of table lamps and wall sconces in varying styles from Preciosa.
