Our Crystal Beat II installation from Milan Design Week 2024 has earned Preciosa its eighth Red Dot Award in the Brands & Communication Design / Light & Sound category, a testament to our mastery of innovation and storytelling through crystal artistry.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions, often referred to as the “Design Oscars." Thousands of participants submit products, communication projects, brands, prototypes, and concepts across three disciplines.

Our Crystal Beat II installation at Milan Design Week 2024 earned Preciosa its eighth Red Dot Award in Brands & Communication Design / Light & Sound. This places us among the world’s best in design and brand, celebrating our ability to turn creative vision into extraordinary sensory experiences.

Crystal Beat II – Music to your eyes

The Crystal Beat II installation, designed by Preciosa Lighting Creative Directors Michael Vasku and Andreas Klug for Milan Design Week 2024, was an extension of the Crystal Beat concept exhibited at Salone del Mobile in 2023. The Crystal Beat II installation consisted of ingeniously arranged, handmade crystal cubes – Crystal Pixels.

Each cube represented a single pixel as the basic building block of the image, and together they created an entire dynamic lighting composition inspired by game graphics and pixel art style. The interplay between the 3D sound system and the colourful lighting effects created an unforgettable sensory experience. Music to your eyes.

Crystal Beat II is a response to the shift in the culture around us. We are all at once looking to the future and reaching back to the past for nostalgia, comfort and experience to recoup popular retro trends. Through a dazzling display of light and music, every suspended Crystal Pixel invites you to take a graphic journey back in time, while absorbing the sensory delights of the present.

400 suspended and fully programmable crystal cubes

The Crystal Beat II installation, consisting of 400 interactive crystal cubes, formed the basis of this sensory experience. They were suspended in the air, creating a pixelated canvas on which each pixel created dreamlike landscapes of vibrating lights.

Each side of each pixel was individually programmed to display a different color, thanks to proprietary LED technology developed in-house.
