About

Created for our long-term client Norwegian Cruise Line in collaboration with Studio DADO, this bespoke sculptural centrepiece anchors the grand atrium of Norwegian Luna. The installation is animated by dynamic lighting scenes that transform over the course of the day, echoing the subtle shifts of light along the ocean horizon.

Like a day unfolding at sea, the composition is never quite the same from one hour to the next. Each of 120 hand-blown crystal plates can be controlled individually, allowing brightness and colour temperature to shift across the installation: from the warm gold of sunrise and sunset to the clear, cooler light of an open-sea morning.
No two plates read quite the same. Hand-blown textures range from bubbled and crackled surfaces to Jet Black Gloss, while one unique element combines crystal with opal and fluorescent powder.
As the hours pass, the installation changes with them. Gentle transitions travel across the glass like light moving over water, shifting the mood to suit the time of day, the atmosphere on board or a special moment at sea.

Great maritime lighting does more than occupy a space; it gives guests a moment to remember. Here, handcraft and technology come together in a composition that changes with life on board, making light part of the journey.

Technology & Craft

Every hand-blown crystal plate is individually controlled, opening up a wide range of lighting compositions and animations. DMX control allows brightness and colour temperature to be adjusted element by element, from warm 2200K candlelight to cool 6500K daylight. Spanning more than 53 square metres – roughly the footprint of a boutique gallery – the installation has a scale to match the atrium. Among the installation's distinctive features is a unique component that combines crystal with opal and fluorescent powder.
