Superyacht Moon Sand

The 55m Lürssen superyacht Moon Sand, designed by Bannenberg & Rowell, is described as “truly bespoke” and with “distinctive lines.” The yacht’s interior features an inspired use of colours and textures combined with elegant interior furnishings.

We created two lighting fixtures for the salon and dining areas on the main deck. Hand-blown glass plates in opal were paired with a polished stainless steel surface finish in white. Each fixture consists of 38 hand-blown glass segments. At the top of the installations are 13 glass segments which have LED strips in the bottom. These not only illuminate the bottom components, but make the opal glass segments more striking. The fixtures appear matte during the day, but at night they look more translucent and give a sense of movement on the ceiling.

As important as the lighting design is, technology always plays a big role in maritime projects. For the Moon Sand, we were able to keep the designer’s requirement for a simple and clean design, while safely securing the fixture to the ceiling with no holes or attachments able to be seen.
