Marriott Marquis

San Diego, USA

The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is unique amongst other downtown San Diego hotels. The hotel provides an environment that easily transitions from dynamic meetings to resort-style relaxation. Adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and just steps from the Gaslamp Quarter, the hotel is at the center of many popular attractions of the city.

The redesign of existing amenity spaces and all of the meeting spaces below the grand hotel´s north and south guestroom towers has been done by TVS Design, based in Atlanta. The design language of natural materials and clean, modern detailing throughout the public spaces reflect warm neutrals reminiscent of glimmering sand and surf. Influenced by water and natural fauna, accent colors are pronounced in the carpeting, fabrics, artwork and lighting. The ballroom of 36,000 sf, has 4 large areas, 8 smaller areas and 3 pre-function areas, using subdividing walls.

Preciosa, in collaboration with TVS Design, has developed sophisticated chandeliers, composed from high quality optical glass twisted tubes, for the ballroom. RGBW LED´s have been used and the lighting control system allows the hotel to change the colors to whatever they desire.  For example, on Valentine’s Day they may have an event and use all red lighting or for St. Patrick’s Day, they may use green.

In the Marriott Hall North Pre-function Area, at the left, center and right entrances, are lighting constellations named ’Falling Flowers’. These are composed from two hundred hand blown Bohemian crystal glass flowers, produced in Crystal Valley, in azure, frosted and black diamond finishes.
