Great Northern Hotel

LONDON, UK

The newly opened Great Northern Hotel (GNH), located at King’s Cross train station, has been carefully renovated to preserve the building’s historic character, while introducing a high-end, modern feel to its interior.

The majority of the ground floor is given over to the GNH Bar. Red velvet curtains, black and white tiling, and a 25 meter pewter bar combine to form a glamorous setting that echoes the golden age of international train travel.

The room is completed by two hand-made chandeliers from Preciosa Lighting, following a 19th Century design that was once popular with Europe’s aristocracy.  A deep coffered, engraved mirrored ceiling allows these magnificent luminaries made by Czech glass master craftsman to be seen from all angles,  exaggerates the room’s already significant height, and complements its rich interior. Preciosa created these true works of art in cooperation with Philippe Starck’s design studio YOO Furnishing.
