The Dorian Autograph hotel in Calgary (part of the Marriott family) blends design-forward architecture with unique tailored experiences. Preciosa Lighting worked with the team at CHIL Interior Design, who envisioned this hotel to be a tribute to the life and works of Oscar Wilde. Named after his famous novel, “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” every guest room contains a copy of the book on the bedside table.
Preciosa crafted a large variety of chandeliers, lamps, and wall sconces for many public spaces and guestrooms, highlighting the saturated colour palette, unique details, and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces found throughout the property.
In the Café Bar hangs a chandelier with individual hand-blown glass spheres connected by a stainless steel frame in a satin golden bronze finish. Each sphere is also framed in an elegant stainless-steel ring in the same surface finish. While this bespoke lighting hangs over the bar, guests relax in the seating area under a series of pendants with oval frames that support opal spheres. Wall sconces in a similar finish complete the look. We also crafted quirky side lamps featuring a satin golden bronze metal bird as the stand topped with an acrylic opal shade.
The Fitness Center is brightened by a large installation featuring bowl-shaped lights with a black matte finish suspended in a grid pattern. The lounge features two chandeliers created from a cluster of hand-blown opal glass with gold finish highlights.
A must-visit at The Dorian is to The Wilde, a restaurant with captivating views across the city. Our chandeliers catch the eye indoors with its large opal glass spheres and satin golden bronze tubes supporting metal shades. The design acts as a piece of art attached to the restaurant’s columns. Guests at the communal table enjoy a large lighting fixture featuring a bronze metal plate with 27 pieces of suspended hand-blown opal spheres. The spheres hang down but also out for a unique look. Our final lighting design in this space is a range of white bell-shaped shades hanging over individual tables.
A chic and contemporary lighting piece made by Preciosa is in every guest room. Elegant bedside lamps with a satin golden bronze finish and white opaque hand-blown spheres sit next to the room’s copy of “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Two other guestroom lamps include a tabletop and floor lamp version with a satin golden bronze finish. Another floor lamp features a marble base.

The Dorian’s design concept beautifully captured Oscar Wilde’s zest for life. We hope the stylish beauty of Preciosa’s lighting fixtures at The Dorian will brighten guests’ stay and enhance their memories. It was a joy to work on this extraordinary lighting project.
